The newest type of fence on the market is the Vinyl/PVC type. These two words are interchangeable in describing this type. PVC is an acronym that stands for Polyvinyl chloride which is a thermoplastic polymer. This material is widely used in construction as a building material, the most familiar being plumbing pipes. It is a hard plastic used primarily for its durability, low maintenance, and it can be recycled for repeat use. You can easily see why it would work well for fences. Vinyl fence requires posts that measure 51/2” X 51/2” or 4” X 4” wide, depending on the height desired. These posts are 6 to 15 feet long, and are buried at the base 2 to 3 feet into the ground, again, depending on the height. It is long-lasting, and many like its clean, neat look. This type also has many styles including three rail ranch, tongue and groove privacy, and picket, and comes in white, tan, and gray.
